Overview
Health Information Partners® is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Outpatient Surgery Coder to join our team full-time. This role focuses on accurate coding of outpatient surgical procedures across multiple specialties, supporting compliant reimbursement and timely claim submission.
Duties
- Review and analyze outpatient surgery medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Ensure proper sequencing of codes per federal, state, and payer-specific guidelines
- Verify coding and billing accuracy to support clean claims and optimal reimbursement
- Collaborate with revenue cycle, compliance, and clinical teams to resolve edits, denials, and documentation gaps
- Participate in coding audits and quality assurance initiatives
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality
- Support onboarding and training for new coding staff
- Contribute to workflow and process improvements related to outpatient surgery coding
Requirements
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in outpatient coding.
- Proven experience in medical coding with a strong understanding of ICD coding, CPT coding, DRG classifications, and medical billing processes.
- Familiarity with EPIC system is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to interpret clinical documentation accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills.
